Law

MCL 691.1407 Section 7

The implications of law 691.1407 stand as a barrier to justice and accountability. This law grants broad immunity to governmental agencies, their officers, employees, and volunteers, making it exceedingly challenging for survivors to seek legal recourse for injuries or damages resulting from such horrific events. By immunizing these entities from tort liability, the law essentially shields them from accountability, even in instances where gross negligence may be a contributing factor. Repealing law 691.1407 is crucial to ensuring that survivors of school shootings have the ability to hold responsible parties accountable for their actions or negligence. This repeal would not only empower survivors but also send a clear message that our legal system prioritizes justice and accountability over shielding governmental agencies from the consequences of their actions.

MCL 600.6431,

By repealing MCL 600.6431, we can alleviate the legal burden on survivors, affording them the necessary time to heal while seeking justice. Simultaneously, the establishment of a federal agency dedicated to scrutinizing the circumstances preceding school shootings would offer a crucial layer of preventative measures. This agency would conduct comprehensive investigations into the social, psychological, and environmental factors contributing to each incident, aiming to identify patterns and warning signs. The insights gained from these investigations would inform evidence-based policies and interventions, creating a proactive strategy to address the root causes of school shootings. Together, the repeal of restrictive state laws and the implementation of federal oversight can forge a path toward a safer future for our students and educators.

Call for brand new legislation

In the wake of tragic school shootings, it is paramount to emphasize the critical importance of conducting thorough and unbiased investigations by a government entity, akin to the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) meticulous approach to plane crash investigations. Just as the FAA seeks to uncover the root causes of aviation disasters to enhance safety measures, a dedicated government agency for school shootings would play a pivotal role in understanding the complex factors leading to these incidents. Such investigations would not only provide invaluable insights into the societal, psychological, and environmental elements contributing to school shootings but also pave the way for evidence-based policies and preventative measures. By mirroring the FAA's commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement, a government entity investigating school shootings can help foster a safer educational environment for students and educators while addressing the systemic issues that contribute to these devastating events.

Full funding for Schools

Investing in the well-being of our children and preparing them for obstacles beyond their education.

Mental health is a fundamental part of this equation. Our schools must provide the resources and support systems necessary to address the mental health needs of our students, and maybe we can prevent a school shooting instead of facing what happened in Oxford High School.

Co-Responder

Seeking support from neighboring areas, our community aspires to establish a dedicated co-responder program inspired by OCHN's successful CoRe initiative. Launched in 2021, OCHN's program deploys four clinicians across Pontiac, Troy, Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Auburn Hills, and Rochester. These co-responders intervene in calls requiring mental health or substance use support, aiming to de-escalate crises and prevent unnecessary justice involvement. Beyond immediate assistance, they coordinate services, ensuring individuals receive referrals and linkages to vital mental health and substance use resources. Our goal is to replicate this success locally, fostering collaboration for a tailored co-responder program that champions mental health, reduces justice involvement, and ensures access to crucial resources. Your support is essential as we work together to prioritize mental health, enhance crisis response, and create a safer, more compassionate community. Join us in shaping a future where everyone receives the care and support they need.
